Unlike grantmaking foundations, the Edward Lowe Foundation seldom awards grants to individuals or organizations. It is an operating foundation whose mission emphasizes support services for groups of second-stage business owners and for other entrepreneurial support organizations rather than grants.

The Yahoo! Directory is an online guide to the World Wide Web. It is catalog of sites created by a staff of editors who visit and evaluate web sites, and then organize them into subject-based categories and sub-categories.
The Foundation Center provides an online directory of grantmakers. Hard copies of the Foundation Center publications are generally available at university libraries and large public libraries. They may be kept in a special collection for people seeking grants, so ask a librarian for help if you can't find them by searching for the keywords "Foundation Center" in a library catalog. Some university libraries also provide access to online databases from the Foundation Center.
Small Business Technology Transfer Program
The STTR program grants funding to small businesses in partnership with nonprofit research institutions, such as universities, to develop new technologies and products that address the technological needs of the federal government.
Small Business Innovation Research Program
The SBIR Program coordinates grant awards enabling small businesses to propose innovative ideas and develop products that meet the specific research needs of several federal agencies.
