Check out our archives.” font_container=”tag:h5|text_align:left|color:%2360320a” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text]The Edward Lowe Foundation Archives hold about 500 linear feet of materials and are housed at the Edward Lowe Legacy Center on the foundation’s property in southwest Michigan. Within the center, the foundation has built a climate-controlled storage vault specifically for the archival collections, along with an office for researchers.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]In addition to preserving corporate memory, the archives have been used for a variety of projects, including the Edward Lowe Information Center. Located at the entrance to the foundation’s property, this mini-museum features a variety of displays that highlight Ed Lowe’s entrepreneurial journey and the foundation’s current activities.
The foundation has loaned its archival material to other institutions for traveling and temporary exhibits — and gifted many artifacts to museums. The archives have also been enabled the foundation to participate in various media projects. For example, in 2011 the Discovery Channel Canada aired a series, “Inventions that Shook the World,” with a segment from the 1940s that included Kitty Litter.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Students and researchers are welcome to use the archives to learn more about how Edward Lowe Industries, how Ed created a brand new industry, his innovative products and marketing campaigns — and his efforts to advance entrepreneurship in the United States. “Ed Lowe, who invented Kitty Litter in 1947, understood how powerful information is,” says Heidi Connor, former archivist and curator of the foundation’s historical collections. “He was zealous about saving his business records and personal papers, and he also wrote extensively, so we have a wealth of resources to draw from.”
