The Edward Lowe Foundation was established by Ed and Darlene Lowe in 1985. In contrast to most U.S. foundations, which are grant-giving entities, we are an operating foundation that funds its own programs.

Paul Bateson
GM of External Relations
Overview: Responsible for developing and maintaining partner relationships across the country.
Entrepreneurship team
As the foundation’s general manager of External Relations, Paul Bateson is responsible for developing a strong national presence for the foundation and managing relationships with our partners in entrepreneurship and economic development. He also the System for Integrated Growth, including operations, marketing and outreach. In addition to these two key programs, Bateson provides strategic direction and support to other initiatives within the foundation’s entrepreneurship division.
Previously Bateson served as program manager at the University of Missouri-Extension where he coordinated the state’s program for second-stage companies and helped faculty and community-based entrepreneurs commercialize new technologies.
Bateson holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and an MBA degree from the University of Phoenix.
With expertise in sales and marketing, international trade and technology development, Bateson also has a long track record of success in the for-profit world. He has held a variety of senior positions at large and small businesses, with an emphasis in the industrial food ingredient industry.
